As our society undergoes an era of renewal and awakening of issues of social justice, educators often find themselves at the forefront of contentious debate. ACEMM recognizes the needs of teachers who strive to create an inclusive, responsive, and safe space for all students and aims to support them with materials, plans, and approaches that fulfill this mission. This is a workshop that delves into the realm of social justice through the lens of kindness.
Participants will be guided through elemental music that can be further explored and unfolded from entry points of children's literature, history, poetry, and even science. This workshop will provide multiple frameworks for elemental music and movement creation that will give students the means to work with thought-provoking materials and grant the agency of adding their own voice to the subject. By using the theme of kindness, teachers will find material that can be folded into their school's existing "Kindness Month" themes and activities.
Teachers will take from the workshop lessons that can be directly applied or adapted to their own teaching situation, as well as a wealth of resources and ideas for engaged and responsive teaching through music and movement.
After registering, you will receive an email with directions to access the live Zoom call. After the live workshop, you will receive a follow up email with directions to access the recording and downloadable materials.
Upon completion, you may request a certificate of completion for 1.5 hours of professional development.
